Always remember #FLOSS* devs dont owe you anything. You can ask them for something but never demand them.
They are offering their freetime and working power and rarely ever get something back.

If you're a decent software engineer, your assumptions will be:
- "everyone uses dialup over a shitty phone line that goes to one of those electromechanical telephone exchanges from 60s" instead of "the internet is fast enough these days"
- "everyone MAYBE has 8 GB of storage on their phone, half of which is taken by the OS" instead of "storage is cheap and 100 MB per app is okay, grow up, it's {{ current_year }}"
- "your user won't give a shit about your 'developer experience' and how 'beautiful' your code is" instead of "Kotlin and React and Electron are required, no one uses raw platform APIs/native controls/whatever anymore because it's so EASY to develop with all these new abstractions"
Trying to imagine going back to 1985 and telling someone their computer would eventually have eight multi-gigahertz cores, and yet the cursor would still lag behind you while you type
I stumbled over this new street sign today. Can't wait to get my (inflatable) #kayak out of the basement.
I received issue 53 of #Freeze64 today, my favourite magazine for the #commodore64. Can't wait to read "The making of Laser Zone" with #JeffMinter. Laser Zone was one of the first computer games I ever played.
Any Freeze64 subscribers round here?
If you live in Germany you can order this free book about computers in East Germany, you only need to pay for shipping (4€ or 5€, depending on where you live).
I have fully migrated from mastodon.xyz to my own instance now. 🎉
Thank you @mastohost for applying the patch!
I've seen a few posts about people 'fearing the lack of algorithm', or "feeling lost without one'.
Personally, i've always seen the #algorithm as heavily biased, something you waste your #creative energy and soul, constantly sucking up to it in order to be seen and noticed. I've always felt It's a farce. Marching the right way gets you popular, not your creative merits. You get practically blacklisted and not given a chance if you don't play ball.
Hoping this place is a breath of fresh air.
Happy to have found the #8bit #RetroComputing scene on #Mastodon. Has the #SegaMegaDrive / #SegaGenesis bubble arrived already? Any tips regarding accounts I should follow? #retrodon #16bit #retroscene
One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.
It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.
It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!
#retrocompuing So - looks like I have to start looking into burning EPROMs for the #C64 / #C128, and i am dreaded by the topic.
For a complete newbie on that topic - how can I learn how to do that? I would plan for a TL866II like device, but how to source the chips, and which ones? It looks like EEPROMs aren't a big thing for C= roms, or is that a misconception?
Any good source of information is welcome <3
It only takes a few seconds to change the battery of a #Fairphone. No tools required. No nasty glue or tape. 😀 #FP2 #Fairphone2
OK, I just deactivated the first of 2 #birdsite accounts. This one was easy, the second one will be tougher. It may take a few days to finally let go.
#Mastodon is trending over at #birdsite and I am a little bit afraid of an Eternal September. 😱 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September)
